2021 COVID-19 VACCINE INEQUITY AMONG PATIENTS WITH RHEUMATIC DISEASES

COVID-19 vaccination is now underway. Guidance provided by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) surrounding vaccination of individuals with autoimmune diseases or those who are immunosuppressed is evolving. While NACI had initially recommended that the vaccine not be offered routinely to these individuals, their recommendation has been updated to state that these individuals may be offered the vaccine if it is felt that benefits outweigh potential risks.

Unfortunately, NACI’s early recommendations may have led to unintended inequities to access of the COVID-19 vaccine for patients with rheumatic diseases.

We hope to learn from your experience in the COVID-19 vaccination roll-out, to explore if inequities are affecting patients and, if they are, how to best advocate on behalf of patients locally, provincially, and nationally.  As a first step, we are inviting you to share your experience in this brief survey. It should take no more than 5 minutes to complete.

We are grateful for your insights.
