As a representative of a key stakeholder organization and/or as an individual with expertise in a relevant area (e.g., gender-based violence prevention, sexuality, sexual health, education), The Sex Information & Education Council of Canada (SIECCAN) is asking for your help and support in developing educational and policy-related resources to inform the delivery of gender-based violence prevention within sexual health education programs.

Background information on the consultation:

Purpose

SIECCAN is conducting the Preventing Gender-Based Violence: Developing and Implementing Effective Sexual Health Education Policy and Practice project. The project is funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada’s Feminist Response and Recovery Fund (https://women-gender-equality.canada.ca/).

The overarching objective of the project is to modify policies and practices related to gender-based violence (GBV) prevention within sexual health education programming in Canada.

Our key focus is to

  • support policy and program decision-makers to incorporate effective GBV prevention within sexual health education policy decision-making and

  • increase the capacity of educators to implement effective GBV prevention within sexual health education programming in school settings.

We are currently seeking input for the development of two key project resources:

1) Sexual Health Education Gender-Based Violence Prevention Policy Guidelines

The guidelines will provide policy and program decision-makers with clear evidence-based recommendations to consistently integrate effective GBV prevention within sexual health education policy and programming across Canada.

2) Sexual Health Education Gender-Based Violence Prevention Benchmarks
The benchmarks will specify the specific age/grades for the integration of GBV prevention information, skills, and education methods within sexual health education programming.
