2023 CAE/SAE Bruce Aubin Aerospace Design Award Nomination Form


This scholarship program is sponsored by The Canadian Academy of Engineering and the Society of Automotive Engineers, through the generous support of Mr. Bruce R. Aubin, ing, FCAE.  Mr. Aubin, retired after 40 years of service with Air Canada. He has been widely recognized in the field of Air Transportation for his initiatives and contribution to the operation of commercial aircraft and the safety of flight. In particular he was instrumental in revising aircraft maintenance procedures which are still used in aircraft certification to-day. He has dedicated over 50 years of service to the advancement of aerospace engineering. Mr. Aubin was extremely active in the SAE, holding leadership positions such as Chair of the SAE Aerospace Program Office, serving as the 1993 SAE President and subsequently President of the SAE Foundation Canada. He was instrumental in establishing the CAE Scholarship program.    


Only students who are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents of Canada and currently enrolled in a Canadian University Engineering Program accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) may apply. CAEB accredits undergraduate engineering programs.  

These students should have unique and outstanding leadership skills as demonstrated in project teams or other initiatives working on aeronautics projects. They should have an interest in pursuing a career in the aerospace sector. 

Terms of Scholarship

One winner each year receives an $2000 honorarium and a framed certificate.

How to Apply

The 2023 application form is to be completed online. 

By clicking “Submit” on the signature page, you are indicating that the application form is complete, and you are finalizing your submission to the CAE. Alternatively, if you wish to return to the form and continue later, please select “Save and Continue Later” at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen (in the grey bar). You will be asked to supply an email address to save your progress and a unique link will be emailed to you that will allow you to return to the incomplete form, where you left off.

Submission Requirements

1. Please answer all questions to the best of your ability.

2. As part of the online form, you must provide: 
  • Letter of recommendation from previous employer or faculty member (.pdf format)
  • Academic transcript (.pdf format).
  • Curriculum vitae (details of volunteer, work, and leadership activities): 4 pages maximum (.pdf format)
These documents should be saved as FirstNameLastName_Recommendation, FirstNameLastName_CV and FirstNameLastName_Transcript, respectively. You will be given the option to upload these documents as part of your form.

Please ensure that the documents are submitted in the method stated in the application. Any other methods of submission will not be accepted.

We will only accept applications that meet the submission requirements above. Complete submissions will receive a confirmation email.

Application Deadline

The application must be submitted no later than midnight on the 14 April 2023.
