Thank you for your interest in taking the free, 4-hour Mental Health Community Connector (MHCC) training!
The purpose of the MHCC training is to provide
frontline community agency staff with tools to help them support their clients’ mild-to-moderate mental health needs, including connecting them to local (Burnaby) services that support mental health. The MHCC training covers the following content:
- Key mental health concepts, such as recognizing poor or declining mental health and understanding the social determinants of mental health. It also covers daily activities that support mental health (to recommend to clients), and SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goal setting for self-care.
- How to respond to help your clients using the ALGEES (Approach, Listen, Give, Encourage, Encourage, Self-Care) Action Plan.
- How to navigate the mental health care system using online tools, such as the Burnaby Resource Directory (https://burnabypcn.ca/social-supports/).
The training does not prepare people to become professional mental health clinicians. It does not cover diagnostic or treatment information, or severe mental health challenges. MHCCs do not provide direct medical advice.
