The mission of the CAP-ACP is to ensure that all Canadians benefit equally from high quality laboratory medicine. Digital pathology and precision diagnostics are transforming patient care by improving the accuracy of diagnosis, turn-around-times, and facilitating expert and precision clinical management. Digital pathology will further allow pathologists to use advanced imaging technologies and software analysis tools, particularly those incorporating artificial intelligence and to improve access to sub-specialty diagnosis. This transition will enhance access to pathology data and improve our ability to transition to a future where real-world-data can be used to generate real-world evidence to expeditiously develop pathology support for novel therapies. This data will also be essential to powering the development of new tools in the machine learning and artificial intelligence space.

Precision diagnostics further enhance patient care by tailoring treatment strategies to individual patients. By utilizing genomic data and biomarkers, healthcare providers can select therapies that are specifically effective for each patient, reducing reliance on generalized treatment protocols work for a group, but not necessarily the individual. This personalized strategy not only increases the likelihood of treatment effectiveness but may also minimize adverse effects, fostering a deeper connection between patients and the clinical treatment team as they collaborate on individualized care plans. Together, digital pathology and precision diagnostics create a more informed, patient-centered healthcare environment, ultimately leading to improved health outcomes and quality of life for all Canadians.

The CAP-ACP, together with a growing list of industry partners will be hosting a 2-day event – Thursday, May 28 and Friday May 29, 2026 at the British Columbia Research Centre in Vancouver, BC.

The first day (Thursday) will focus on digital pathology including the implementation of digital pathology and development and implementation of computational pathology and artificial intelligence tools in the clinical and research pathology space as well as automation in the diagnostic pathology laboratory.
The second day (Friday) will be focused on precision diagnostics and the role pathologist play in ensuring appropriate and timely testing to facilitate therapy. The event will close with a discussion on how digital pathology can be used now and, in the future, to make pathology practice more efficient, more accurate, and improve patient care.
