What you will need:To complete this application, you will need the following information.
- Full contact information of applicant, including host organization full contact information.
- Anticipated number of participants, officials, spectators and volunteers at the event.
- Estimated age breakdown of participants.
- Estimated number of visitors that are connected to the event that will be staying overnight at City of Niagara Falls hotels.
- Listing of City of Niagara Falls or community facilities that will be utilized for the event.
The purpose of the Sport Tourism Grant program is to provide assistance in the provision of hospitality for visiting sports teams, officials and spectators attending a major sporting event being held in the City of Niagara Falls at City and community facilities.
The Sport Tourism Grant Program will:
- Support City of Niagara Falls youth and adult sport organizations to host regional, provincial and national amateur sport events within the City of Niagara Falls.
- Encourage provincial and national sport organizations to host their tournament(s) in the City of Niagara Falls.
- Generate positive economic impact by attracting and hosting visitors.
- Benefit the local sport system with development of volunteers, athletes, coaches, officials and community pride.
Guidelines
- Sport tourism opportunities may include international, national, provincial and regional single-sport championships. Also, include annual tournaments/events, multi-sport games and training camps, selection camps and/or preparation events. All events to be endorsed or sanctioned by the Provincial, National or International sporting body.
- Private and nonprofit organizations can apply for a sport tourism grant.
- Applicants are requested to provide information on anticipated number of competitors and/or teams attending the sporting event.
- Sporting event is to be a minimum of 2 days.
- Limited to 2 applications per organization per year with the opportunity for additional events to be approved if funds are available at year end.
- The majority of the participants/spectators staying overnight at hotels, located within the City of Niagara Falls.
- Events hosted by private organizations must be hosted within City of Niagara Falls operated facilities in order to receive a rebate.
Process
- The Sport Tourism Economic Assessment Model (STEAM) tool may be utilized to assess the economic impact of each tournament/special event. STEAM will allow staff to measure, track and support the event.
- Applicants are to complete this form in its entirely in order to be received. Partial applications will not be accepted.
- Applications must be received a minimum of 60 days prior to the start of the event in order to be eligible for funding.
Funding Models
Nonprofit Rebate Funding Scale:
- Level 1, 50 - 249 total overnight stays - eligible for $300 rebate
- Level 2, 250 - 500 overnight stays - eligible for $700 rebate
- Level 3, 501 or more overnight stays - eligible for $1,500 rebate
- Level 4, 750 or more overnight stays - eligible for a maximum of $4,000 (depending on the significance of the event)
For profit Rebate Funding Scale:
- Level 1, 50 - 249 total overnight stays - eligible for 0% of rental fee rebate
- Level 2, 250 - 500 overnight stays - eligible for %5 of rental fee rebate
- Level 3, 501 or more overnight stays - eligible for %10 of rental fee rebate
- Level 4, 750 or more overnight stays - eligible for %15 of rental fee rebate
Post Event Reporting
- Organizations have a maximum of 30 days from the completion of their event to report details in order to receive grant funding.
- Organizations are to complete the Sport Tourism Grant Reporting Form once their event has been completed. A link to access this form will be sent to the event organizer once the grant has been approved for processing.
- Note, when competing the reporting form, you will be asked to provide a budget report, valid records showing the number of out-of-town participants who stayed overnight in the City of Niagara Falls that were directly related to your event.
