The Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) is once again partnering with the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) Business Management Program and Provincial VMA's to conduct the annual Survey of Compensation and Benefits for All Veterinarians in Canada.
The survey results will be used to conduct a detailed analysis of veterinarian compensation and benefits (e.g., salary and benefits by area, years of experience, type of practice, on-call requirements, etc.). This is a valuable opportunity to contribute to important research that directly impacts you and the profession. Your input is essential in ensuring that our report accurately reflects the true state of compensation for associate veterinarians.
The
Associate Survey, Survey of Veterinarians in Government, Industry and Academe (VGIA), and the
Locum Survey are integrated into the 2026 Survey of Compensation and Benefits for All Veterinarians in Canada. The Locum Survey records current locum rates and costs associated with providing locum service. The VGIA survey follows veterinarians who have chosen alternative career paths. If you do not fall into these categories, you will not be asked the related questions.
The resulting provincial Reports on Compensation and Benefits for Associate Veterinarians, along with the national reports on Locum veterinarians and Veterinarians in Government, Industry and Academe can help you:
- Better understand compensation trends and your current market value.
- Compare your personal work experience to other Associate veterinarians.
- Negotiate a fair compensation and benefits package.
- To ensure that the reports paint an accurate picture of associate compensation, it is important that you answer every question.
Please complete the questionnaire based on your compensation in 2026 and use information from your latest pay stub and scheduling information in your workplace to make estimates for the year. If necessary, please average weekly or daily information to get an accurate representation. If you are paid based on your production, please provide your compensation for the most recent 12 months. Accurate detailed information is essential to producing a meaningful report.
To ensure the strictest confidentiality, all the information is anonymous, and the final reports will only present consolidated information; no individual will be identifiable. The deadline for survey completion is
September 1st, 2026. Provincial VMA and CVMA members will have access to the reports.
